Clinical Studies of 182 Cases of Facial Linear Scar Revision

Abstract

|
The management of scar repair in face poses special problems, although surgeons have used scar revision technique. This technique seems to be easy but requires difficult skill.
Considering these problems in mind, 182 cases of facial linear scar who under went scar revision by Department of Plastic Surgery, Kyung Hee Medical Center over 3 years and 8 months period from Nov. 1973 to July, 1977 were clinically reviewed.
The result was summarized as follows;
1) By using fusiform excision on facial linear scar that was runs paralled to RSTL (Relaxed Skin Tension Line), the results were unsatisfactory in a considerable number of the patients that was 12. 1%.
2) W-plasty & Z-plasty appeared to be the best method in facial linear scar that is not paralled to RSTL.
3) Among the patients who were not satisfied more would become satisfactory with their long-term result.
4) Scar -elevation is the only complication that can be treated in early postoperative period that is during from 2 months to 3 months.
